Match report A positive start to the new season!

Oakfield Parkonians travelled to Broxbourne cc for their first game of the 2017 season. Credit to the groundsman for having prepared such a good looking wicket in the first week of April. With a bright blue sky and the sun out, the team couldn't believe their luck when the skipper won the toss and elected to bat first. Faisal Bhatti and (Double Digit)Dave Rai opened the proceedings in sparkling fashion. Faisal(86) looked in good touch playing all around the ground and was unlucky to miss out on a century. Dave Rai lived up to his namesake picking up where Faisal left off finishing on 78 (including 5 boundaries in an over!). Park's strong batting line up did not give the Broxbourne bowlers much respite as Paran Kalley stepped in to smash a quickfire 52* before graciously retiring to give another a chance, useful cameos by skipper Usman Rafiq (25*) and Jibran Azam (22) allowed Parks to score a towering 280 of their allotted 40 overs.

Parks enjoyed their well earned tea, some a little to much to be fair. Then it was the bowlers turn, Anujan Thiru was a man on a mission bowling with hostility finishing on 8-0-41-2 and could have easily had a couple more. He was well supported by young Matt Holland (7-0-31-2). Jaydeep Dhuria and Ronan Karuna kept up the good work bagging a wicket each however, the Broxbourne batters kept up with the required run rate and gave a good chase. Losing wickets at crucial times stalled their momentum. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. In a do or die situation, when the pressure was to much, the Captain stepped up to turn his arm. Deceiving the opposition batsmen with flight and guile and finishing with figures of 0.2-0-0-1, the celebrations were jubilant (from himself in any case).

Parks ended up winning by 49 runs in a very enjoyable day.
