Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 5th XI v Old Chelmsfordians on Sat 23 Jul 2016 at TBC
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 202 runs
Match report
First win of the season for Oakfield Parkonians 5th XI, and what a win!! After losing the very first game of this season against Old Chelmsfordians, the 5s were really up for this game, having come very close to winning last week as well.
Skipper Bal Diocee won the toss and elected to bat on a green strip that looked like it had something in it for the bowlers. A good score was needed against the Chelmsford boys as they had chased down 225 with ease in the previous game.
Bhavik Trivedi and George Christian gave Parks exactly the start required, putting on 108 for the 1st wicket in only 14 overs, before both falling having reached 54 and 51 respectively. Shahid Khan added a brisk 37 before the middle order collapsed somewhat to allow Chelmsford an opening.
However, any hopes they had were laid to rest by a solid 19 from Amar Desai and cameos of 21 each from Thomas Varnes and Akhil Patel who remained unbeaten. Only L.Jon came away with respectable figures, with a return of 6-1-18-2, everybody else being punished severely.
255 was going to be a hard task for Chelmsford and the scoreboard pressure took its toll. Danger man L.Gray who scored 50 n.o. in the previous meeting was removed cheaply caught behind off a leading edge, and after that it was one way traffic with only one batsman reaching double figures.
The bowling was a vast improvement over previous weeks, more accurate, better pace, and intimidating at times. Bryn Evans took 3 for 21 from his 8 overs, and Akhil Patel bowled 6 overs for only 9, unlucky not to take a wicket, but executing an excellent run-out to make a contribution in all three disciplines.
Thomas Varnes chipped in with 2 wickets from his 5 overs for only 10 runs, and Shahid Khan "accidentally" took 3 wickets for only 4 runs from 4 overs - he had been asked to leave a few wickets for other bowlers to take! Subhash Patel nabbed 2 for 7 in his pair of overs, before the wickets ran out!
Chelmsford had arrived with 12 players, so all 12 were allowed to bat but this did not affect the result, as even the last wicket partnership only added 5 runs.
Special mention must be made of the Parks catching in this innings. Despite dropping two hard chances that went to hand, it was a massive improvement. Umar Arbar - affectionately known as "Orange" took an absolute stunner diving forward at shortish mid-wicket to dismiss P.Johnson, and then added another later on. A difficult high catch was made to look very easy by Bhavik at mid-off, and another was taken by Thomas to add to his excellent bowling.
The game was played in good spirit, and very sportingly, and we look forward to deciding game if possible against Old Chelmsfordians.
