Match report On a damp, overcast day stand-in captain Nav Kalley won the toss and had no hesitation in asking the opposition to bat first. It was very slow going as Ibrahim Iqbal and Qais Khan (playing his first game of the season) bowled with control and accuracy but the Parks could not force an early breakthrough. However, that all changed as Inderjit Singh replaced Ibrahim and managed to take a wicket and finished with 7-1-23-1.Things also happened at the other end as Nav bowled his opposite number and then took a further 2 wickets to finish with 9-0-32-3. However, the undoubted star of the bowling was the evergreen Shahid Khan as he ran through the middle order during a spell of great spin bowling and finished with amazing figures of 4-2-2-5 (and very sportingly bought the customary jug back at the clubhouse). The other wicket taker was Subhash Patel (2.3-0-9-1) and a very special mention must go to Ibrahim who took 4 very good catches. In general the Parks bowled and fielded very well and Hutton were all bowled out for 110 in 37.8 overs.
The Park’s reply got off to a terrible start as young Jaydeep Dhuria was bowled off the second ball of the innings and things got worse when Adam Goldman followed a few overs later for 1. However, a solid partnership Yogaratnam Karunakaran and Gurmit Bhatia saw Parks reach 55 before Gurmit was caught for a very well made 29 but the game was still in the balance as the Parks lost another couple of wickets and were 69 for 4, still needing another 42 to win. However Ibrahim came in and soon changed the game as he smashed a very quick-fire 27no (including two huge 6s) in next to no time at all and OPCC won by 5 wickets with 9 overs to spare. A special mention must also go to Karuna who batted very well and sensibly for a patient 17, which on any other wicket would have been worth a lot more and he steadied one end whilst others were able to play their shots. This win takes the Parks upto 4th in the table and kick starts their promotion drive.
