Match report OPCC won the toss and elected to field first. The opening bowlers (Hamd Usman and Ryan Karuna) started very well as Romford & Gidea Park could only manage a paltry 10 runs off the first 5 overs and this was the theme for the whole first innings as all the bowlers bowled a very good line and were well supported by the fielders. The wicket takers were Jaydeep Dhuria (3-0-15-4), Om Thakeria (4-0-27-2) and Mathew Holland (3-0-17-1) but Ryan Karuna also bowled very well as his 4 overs only conceded 8 runs. This restricted the opposition to 111 for 8 and it seemed that the game was there for the taking.
In reply the Parks got off to a great start as both Ryan and Rohitraj Ananeraj batted beautifully, both playing some wonderful shots as first Ryan retired on 30 (four 4s and a 6) and then Rohit (three 4s) and the Parks were 77 after 11 over and needed only another 35 off 9 overs with 8 wickets in hand. However, what followed was simply too much for words as one batsman after another went and came back and the Parks lost their last 8 wickets for 34 runs and the game was tied. What was so disappointing about the end result is there were several very good and seasoned young batsmen who simply could not see the Parks home as rash strokes and a rush of blood saw them throw their wicket away. This was a very disappointing end to what start of so well and the senior members of the team will need to reflect on this result and learn as we are far too good a team to throw away games in this manner.
