Match report It’s not every day the Police are called to an Oakfield Cricket match, but on our visit to Hornchurch boys from the local gypsy camp on bikes also decided to join after paying a us a visit - riding across the square, and taking a couple of balls (obviously intent on improving their fielding!!)- The Local Police were in attendance with a van and helicopter!

With the U13 boys called up for U15 duty this was a huge task for the youngsters facing a full strength Hornchurch side; under a grey sky and annoying breeze Oakfield won the toss and put Hornchurch into bat. The sky got darker and the weather worsened; with mist turning to rain the free scoring opening pair were adding to Oakfield's woes until Karandeep Bansel (5-0-3-27) made the breakthrough taking two successive wickets in the 22nd over with Hornchurch on 156. Arya Karthikeyan (2-0-1-18) was the only other wicket taker on a difficult morning for the Oakfield bowlers which saw two dropped catches and after 30 overs Hornchurch had amassed 228 runs.
In response Oakfield started steadily with the first task being not to loose early wickets; the opening batsmen started well scoring 78 before Samuel Varnes was bowled on 32. Om Thakeria showed great resolve by batting throughout the 30 overs scoring 45 not out however Oakfield were always behind the run rate and finished on 127 for the loss of 5 wickets after 30 overs; Hornchurch winning by 101 runs.
