Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club U16 v Writtle (QF of Matchplay) on Wed 24 Aug 2016 at 1pm
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 129 runs
Match report
On a beautiful sunny day at Oakfield Playing Field, The Parks again won the toss and elected to bat first on a lovely looking batting track. For the opening overs, it looked like a good decision and both openers were taking the attack to the bowlers scoring 40 runs off 4 overs. However, Sahil Handa was bowled by an in-swinging yorker for 13 after looking good and playing some nice shots. Not for the first time in this competition, the Karuna brothers came to the rescue and patiently putting on a good partnership before Ryan was caught at mid-off trying to score the 1 run he needed to reach his fifty. However, he batted very well for his 49 playing some exceptional pull shots with some clearing the ropes by big margins. The Park’s skipper Paresh Kalley walked to the crease and was welcomed by a waist high full toss which he dispatched out of the park for 6. He and Ronan both batted well until Paresh was out caught for 25. With a quick loss of wickets, Parks were soon in a spot of bother as from being 80-1 they slumped to 124-4. Then Karambir Matahru joined Ronan and the two consolidated until Karambir was dismissed for 26. Ronan was still going and sailing towards a 100 but he was running out of batsmen at the other end. But with the lower order supporting Ronan, Parks finish on 265 from their 40 overs. Ronan was very unlucky not to score a ton but was the pick of the batsmen by a distance finishing on 93no which included some monstrous 6s.
After tea, Parks bowlers used the new ball to their advantage very well with both Hamd and Abdul Usman picking up early wickets and sending back the openers back. Abdul again bowled well and swung the ball massively and finished with impressive figure off 5-2-9-1. Hamd also picked up 3 wickets and ended up being unlucky as his figures don’t really reflect on how well he actually bowled (5-1-31-3). The Writtle middle order batsmen built a partnership dispatching the bad bowling to the boundaries but Ronan soon changed that as bowled some quick stuff and revived the innings for the Parks. To go with his 93no, he bowled beautifully and ended with figures of 3-3-0-2 and made the decision of the man of the match a foregone conclusion. Parks continued to take wickets and ended up bowling Writtle out for 136 and won the game by 129 runs and now face Shenfield in the semi-final at Billericay.
