Match report Oakfield Parkonians Sunday A XI beat Black Rose by 6 wickets in the Championship playoff at Alexander Palace
Black Rose 137 all out (25.2 overs); OPCC 139-4 (23.2 overs)

The Oakfield Parkonians Sunday A XI had to win this playoff at Alexander Palace on Sunday to became the Middlesex and Essex Invitation League champions for the first time. A draw would leave them in second place, so they had bowl out first placed Black Ross CC one way or another!

It certainly helped that Oakfield won the toss and elected to bowl first on an overcast day. And what a great start they had. Rana Arslan opened the bowling and had both openers out for ducks in his first two overs and then had the dangerous looking number 3 batsman T Barrow caught by Jibran Azam at the 2nd slip for 20. This certainly put Black Rose at the back foot.

Anujan Thiru bowled well on the other end conceding only 27 in his first spell of 7 overs. However Ibrahim coming in number 5 played some beautiful strokes for 34 before being bowled by Dhruv Patel – the first change of bowler replacing – and then claimed further two more wickets in his 5 over spell.

Black Rose were 92 for 6 at the drinks break, and managed only 137 all out in 25.2 overs with Vijay also taking 2-16 in his five overs to add to his run out of Altab in mid innings.

In reply Faisal Bhatti (21) and Dhruv Patel (15) started well scoring 32 runs in the first 4 overs But both fell in quick succession followed by the loss of James Foley without scoring. Suddenly Oakfield were 38 for 3 after 6 overs. However Usman Rafiq came in to join by inform 1st team skipper Jibran Azam and they steadied the ship. Jibran’s excellent innings of 54 which consisted 3 huge sixes and 7 fours brought the score to 97 for 4 after 16 overs when he was caught at the boundary. Rana Arslan (29) and Usman Rafiq (16) ensured the victory without losing any further wickets.

The skipper for Black Rose A Mishra was the pick of the bowler claimed 3 wickets for 53 in his allotted 12 overs.

Sunday A skipper Vijay thanked all the various players who have contributed to achieve this success over the season and looks forward to more success in the coming seasons.

This is the icing on the cake for what has been an excellent season all round for club as a whole.
