Match was Abandoned heavy rain stopped play

Match report OPCC 5s won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a daunting 161 all out from 33.3 of the allotted 35 overs. Almost everyone contributed some runs by playing very watchfully on an under-prepared pitch (courtesy of L.B of Redbridge),that had very inconsistent bounce and plenty in it for the bowlers. Guest player Scott Leather top-scored with 47 just missing out on a half-century, despite having been hit on the head from a full length delivery early on - he is 6'5"!!! Many wickets fell to bowled due to the inconsistent bounce and seam movement - it was a bit of a lottery to bat on.

In reply, Goresbrook reached 37 for the loss of 5 wickets in 9.1 overs before the game had to be abandoned due to heavy rain and a waterlogged outfield. Notable bowling performances from Akhil who took 2 wickets in two accurate overs - both bowled - without conceding any runs. Jaydeep bowled very well in his first senior game taking a wicket in his 3 overs. An excellent run-out by Faaris, hitting a single stump direct to remove Bobby Granger who was beginning to settle on the awkward pitch.

The game was played sportingly and in great spirit by both sides. It was nice to see parents & family coming to watch their youngsters play as both sides were fielding line-ups mostly of colts, with a couple on each side playing their first senior games. A pity that the game had to be abandoned with OPCC 5s in such a commanding position.
