Match report On a damp, overcast day OPCC won the toss and elected to field first, for only the second time this season. The early breakthrough can when Abdul Usman bowled the Orsett captain with a beautiful ball and Ibrahim Iqbal also took a wicket at the other end but then a long partnership seemed to take the game away from OPCC. Orsett’s young batsman (J King) looked a class apart as he hit the ball to all parts of the ground but he was very likely to survive what looked like a certain run out when he was in his sixties that on another day would have been given out but notwithstanding that, he batted very beautifully and finished the game 116no. He was well supported by D Carter who made a solid 43 but after he was dismissed, wickets fell regularly and Orsett declared on 203 for 6 off their 52 overs. It was very much game on as this looked like a gettable target but we had to bat very well. The pick of the bowlers were the youngsters, Abdul Usman who bowled with some pace and finished with 9-2-24-3 and Tarunpreet Bathia (6-1-26-2).
The Park’s reply did not start very well as they were 29 for 1 inside the sixth over and then 64 for 3 instead the thirteenth and victory looked a very distance possibility. However, what was to follow summed up the season The Parks have had this year as 2 very young bright stars of the future took the game by the scruff of the neck and stunningly turned it around for a very unlikely victory. Tarun came in at number 5 to support the opener (Teerath Diocee) and between them they put on an unbroken 142 in only 26.3 overs. Tarun batted very sensibly and solid to finish on 42no (which included five 4s) but the undoubted star of the show was Teerath Diocee. This innings has been long overdue as it was very obvious Teerath had the talent to make this kind of score but kept getting out when it looked like he would go on to make a big score. However, today he finally came of age as he made a magnificent 132no but it was the manner and range of his shots that stood out as he hit fourteen 4s and seven massive 6s and saw The Parks over the line with twelve overs to spare and we won by 7 wickets and it was a great way to end the league season, both for Teerath and OPCC.
