Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 213 runs

Match report On a hot gloriously hot day OPCC won the toss and the captain had no hesitation in electing to bat first. Benfleet only had 9 players and it looked like it was going to be a long day for them and so it proved as the openers (Ronan Karuna and Teerath Diocee) make a steady start and reached 36 after 10 overs before Teerath was first out for a quick fire 21 (including four 4s). Ronan than worked with Usman Rafiq to rebuild the innings before he too was out for a well-made 25 (five 4s). This bought in the younger Karuna (Ryan) and with the somewhat older Usman the 2 put on an amazing 218 runs off only 25 overs. It was joy to watch the two batsmen strike the balls to all parts of the park and between them they reached the boundary 30 times. Ryan finished on 76no and he accounted for thirteen of the boundaries and never once looked out of place. However, it was Usman who was the aggressor of the two batsmen as he finished on 122no and this was made in double quick time and included seventeen 4s. This was even more remarkable as Usman was fasting and was not allowed to take any fluids during a hot and tiring day. This allowed OPCC to declare on 293 for 2 off only 40 overs and gave them plenty of time to bowl out the Benfleet batsmen.
As has been the norm, OPCC started very well as their captain Nav Kalley accounted for one of the Benfleet openers in only the seventh over. Sifth Ali bowled excellent as first change and finished with great figures of 4-2-1-2 but the star of the show was Anuj Tewari who bowled with real menace and pace and literally went through the Benfleet batsmen ‘like a warm knife through soft butter’ and took 4 quick wickets and the captain promised him one more over to see if he could take his first 5 wicket haul for the club and he did not disappoint and finished with amazing figures of 5-2-12-5 and Benfleet were all bowled out for 80 inside 20 over and OPCC won the game by a massive margin of 213 runs and are fourth in the league table and within striking distance of one of the promotional places.
