Epping v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 05 Sep 2015 at 1pm
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket

Match report It all came down to the last day of the season, with Parkonians needing a win from their last game to secure the championship.

Both captains came to the middle on a very ‘spongy’ wet wicket. Oakfield captain, Dilan Patel won the toss and elected to bowl.

A Thiru (8-3-15-1) opened the bowling with young E Kalley ( 5-1-17-1) he was the first to take the first wicket after keeping great pressure on both the openers. But it was the day of the captain to step up, bowling his best spell for when it mattered (13-3-25-7) allowing no batsmen to really settle and ripping through the team. It allowed Epping to be contained to 104, with conditions being difficult, Oakfield new the task was only half done.

J Foley (15) and S Skandamoorthy (8) fell early in the innings and put all the pressure back onto Parkonians, with runs not coming fluently and Epping bowlers using the conditions well, wickets kept falling thick and fast, allowing only one of the top six to score in double figures. Things started to become nervous in the Parkonians camp with Epping tails up with every chance of winning the game at 49-6. With plenty of batting experience and colts shining as they have done all year, young E Kalley (9) and A Ali (17 n.o) put on a great great 10th wicket partnership of 22 which was all the difference in such a low scoring game, before E Kalley was run out. Epping needing only one wicket and Parks 10 runs to win. A mountain to climb on wicket that only looked like it was deteriorating. A cool calm collected A Ali took Parks over the line with a great cheer from his peers and allowed them to become the champions of the league.

2XI has broken many records this year. Most successful mens team in history of Parks. They also are the second most successful team in the SNEL league this year with 90% win percentage. First time in over 13 years to bring the championship back home to Parks.

This years success it down to a great team spirit and character. Allowing themselves to never accept defeat even when there back have been against the wall. This is the fight and resilience they will need to take into next year.
