Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 31 runs

Match report Having already qualified for the next stage of this year’s Trevor Bailey Match Play competition, it was paramount that the young Parkonians did not take a relaxed approach against a strong Shenfield CC. The day would prove that they did not!
On a beautiful sunny Sunday at Shenfield CC, stand in Captain Paresh Kalley won the toss and decided to bat first. Opening with Arun Olivele and Sahil Handa, both batsmen played very well, and they managed to put together a fluent 96 run partnership of only 99 balls. Unfortunately, just as it seemed that Sahil was looking good for a big score today, he was out for 42. Next to go was Arun, but not before he had made an excellent 57 of 66 balls. Quickly afterwards, OPCC lost Ronan Karuna for 10 but not before he had hit a huge 6 over mid wicket. This left the young Parkonians at 112 for 3 of 22.3 overs. Batsman 4 & 5 Eshun and Paresh Kalley went about to rebuild the innings, with a very good 75 run partnership. Young Eshun being the primary contributor, making a 35 ball 50, which included 2 sixes and 5 fours. With the departure of Eshun, elder brother Paresh put his foot down on the accelerator and made 43 of 38 balls. With only a few overs to spare the incoming batsmen played for the team, and together they managed to get OPCC to a total of 235 for 8 of the allocated 40 overs.
Although the young Parkonians were happy with the total to defend, they were very aware that the strong Shenfield team would be hard to contain. The team spoke about the importance of tight bowling and taking regular Shenfield wickets. That is exactly what OPCC did; they all bowled very well, taking wickets at regular intervals. The opening bowling pair of Abdul Usman, and Sift Ali bowled very well. Abdul finishing with figures of 7-0-40-1, and Sift finishing with 7-1-13-2. Sift bowling spell was particularly a good one; at times he was simply unplayable. First change bowler Eshun, bowling with a bad back, and with a much shortened run up, bowled 6 0vers for 20 runs. Sahil Handa captured a very important wicket of the Essex County player, ending with figures of 5-0-29-1. Aman Ali bowled 7 overs for 49 runs, a little expensive perhaps but importantly he got the prize wicket of Shenfields opener, who made an excellent 83 of 84 balls. At this point a special note for the 2 U13 players Hamd Usman and Jaydeep Duria, who both bowled an over each, with Hamd also capturing his first match play wickets. I am sure in the years to come OPCC will be seeing a lot of these two talented youngsters.
In the end OPCC managed to keep their 100% record in tact by beating a strong Shenfield team by 31 runs. A great performance considering this team was not at full strength today. Looking forward to the next stage of the tournament!
