Match report This is really is déjà vu as OPCC won very convincingly again in the Peter Coe Cup and Eshun Kalley scored a very big hundred. Billericay won the toss and elected to field first and OPCCC changed their opening pair with Jaydeep Dhuria opening the batting with Eshun Kalley and Ryan Karuna dropping to number 3. This worked very well as the openers posted 166 before Jaydeep was caught for a very well-crafted 40 but there was very little rest bite for the Billericay bowlers as Ryan took over where Jaydeep left off and he & Eshun put on a further 131 and OPCC did not lose another wicket. Ryan played a gem off an innings and was unlucky not to get his half century, finishing on 49no which included five 4s. However, the undoubted star of the innings was Eshun who hit the Billericay bowlers to all parts of the ground and smashed seventeen 4s and five 6s on his way to making 180no and beat his previous best score of 176 made only a few weeks ago. This really was a master class in batting and it looked very much like a case of man playing against boys and his innings allowed OPCC to post a massive 317 for 1 off their 30 overs.
This was going to a very tall mountain for the Billericay batsmen to climb as they needed over 10 runs an over right from the start and they were never in the frame as they fell well short of the target. All the OPCC bowlers bowled a very tight line and never gave the Billericay batsmen any room to play their shorts and Billericay eventually finished on 100 for 5 and OPCC ran out winners by a huge 217 runs. OPCC used 8 bowlers and the pick of these was Bhavdeep Singh whose ‘mystery’ spin had the Billericay batmen in all sorts of trouble and he finished with 5-1-8-2. He was well supported by all the other bowlers with Mathew Holland, Harman Sahote and Jazim Shafi all taking a wicket. On this form, we may well be looking at the Peter Coe Champions for 2015.
