Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost By 22 runs

Match report This was the U13’s final game in their Peter Coe campaign for 2014 and it ended in a disappointing defeat. This was a very under strengthen team with a number of their key players missing due to injury, Essex duty or other personal commitments. However, they still performed exceptionally well and ran Fives very close. Fives batted first and put a very competitive 214 for 5 off their 30 overs. However, it could and should have been a lot less as only 159 came off the bat and the remaining 55 were extras with 28 wides and 19 byes. If they could have bowled with more discipline, the result would have been very different.
Having said that, OPCC batted very well and came close but eventually fell short by 22 runs and could only manage 192 for 8 off their 30 overs. The replay looked so promising with Rohitraj Ananeraj and Nirbhay Bist starting very well before Rohitraj was needlessly run out for 16, due to some very poor calling and running. That bought in Hamd Usman who batted beautifully before he was out caught for 29 and it was always going to be uphill after that but some late hitting from Ashandhan Aravinthan (36) and Matthew McCutcheon (17), playing in his last game for the OPCC before he moved to the coast, allowed OPCC to get to 192. The real positive from this is that it showed the strength in depth of the U13s that without 5 of their regular players, they still managed to put up a competitive fight and it bodes well for next year.
