Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won 43 runs

Match report The final game of the league season and Parks wanted to make it 3 wins out of the last 3. Woodford Green had beaten the Parks earlier in the year in a tense game and it proved to be another one at Oakfield.

Parks skipper, Jai Patel, lost the toss and was put into bat. Sachin Vara (6), Parks second highest scorer for the season, unfortunately flicked it to square leg early in his innings. Then came a superb 2nd wicket partnership (we've been blessed with a few great ones in the second half of the season) anchored by Faisal Bhatti (34) but destructively dominated by Jibran Azam (85) who scored another high quality half century (and some). The middle order unfortunately didn't support him and there were no partnerships of any note until the 7th wicket. Tahaa Naqvi (60) continued his superb form batting with the lower order to stroke a well measured half century and bring Parks up to a respectable total of 60. The two batsmen who scored runs over the last 3 weeks continued to do so again.

Woodford started well and had a clear intention to chase for the win. The winner of this game finished 5th and with Parks getting maximum batting points, Woodford has to win the game to secured the position. A strong 50 partnership was broken by Vikram Handa (5-1-20-1) who seems to be recovering from the back injury which has kept him out of bowling all season. Baldeep Mann had bowled well and was unlucky not to take a wicket. Then came on the reliable spin partnership of Jibran Azam (13-1-54-3) and Abdul Rezzaq (9.4-1-44-5) who bowled will flight, variation and control. Parks fielding performance was the worst it had been in as long as we could remember. A number of drops, misfields and moments of indecision almost gave Woodford a sniff. A beautiful 90 run partnership in the middle brought Woodford to 172-5. A change of ends and the bowlers continued their form with Sachin Vara taking a great catch off the dangerous Sean Martin (54) and Parks then wrapped up the game in no time.

A good finish to the season and a feel of "what if" left lingering across the team. A more consistent team, better availability and some support for Jibran, Sachin, Paran, Abudl and Vikram - who were the only players to play 10 games or more for the team is what was required.

The focus moves onto 2015 where Parks expect a number of key changes to ensure the team is challenging on all fronts (across all XI's)

Player of the season for the 2nd year running is Jibran Azam. He amassed a huge total of 868 runs in 15 innings with 3 hundreds and 3 50s at an average of 57.9. He also took 23 wickets at an economy rate of 3.95 and average of 18.78. A truly superb player for the club.

His performances were supported well by in particular 3 players in captains opinion;
- Paran Kalley who played his first full season in the 1s scoring 234 runs at an average of 21.27 and taking 18 wickets at an average of 16.22.
- Sachin Vara who scored 4 fifties and 341 runs at an average of 28.41.
- Abdul Rezzaq who amassed 31 league wickets across the 1s and 2s at an average of 16.09 and economy rate of 3.37. He took 19 of those in the 1s.

All other players contributed well at different points of the season and it has been my pleasure to have played with them all as captain.
