Old Brentwoods (50/50) v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 18 May 2013 at 12.30 pm
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 44 runs

Match report An important game and early test for the season, Parks didn't prepare well arriving 15 minutes before the start time due to a number of complications!

That being said, we lost the toss and were put into bat and our batsmen had little time to get their minds in gear against a reputable bowling attack that bowled Harlow Town out cheaply the week before. Parks started reasonably well against some tight bowling losing two wickets inside the first 10 but scoring at a healthy rate (53 for 2). The middle order then accelerated and batted tremendously well scoring 213 runs in 38 overs against some very good bowling. Jibran Azam scored a quick fire 48, James Foley saw off the dangerous spinner and scored a measured 25 and Kirandeep Bansal scored 30 to keep things ticking over. The star of the show was Haris Khan, who anchored the innings scoring a selfless 96 accelerating when he needed to. A glorious innings to watch with some monster maximums into the trees. The lower order scrambled through for quick singles and Parks achieved a respectable total of 276 (possibly 20 runs short of the target).

Old Brentwoods fancied the chase and started aggressively scoring 26 off the first 3 overs. However, debutatant Hassan Pervaiz (4.5-0-26-3) got the breakthrough with a fast straight delivery taking out middle stump. The big wicket was the next one, Icky Lall (the ex - Ilford 1XI batsmen who saves himself for games against the Parks), who was bowled by a peach of an inswinger by Pervaiz. That set the tone and Parks were pumped. Old Brentwoods only know one way to chase a total and that's on the front foot. They continued to attack scoring quickly until Paran Kalley (7.4-1-37-0) and Shubhang Mehta came on a really put the pressure on slowing the run rate. It was a very mature performance from Paran who managed to control the moving ball very well conceding no extras and 26 runs in his first 6 overs. Shubhang Mehta (10-1-29-3) showed his class as he got into his rhythm and got some important breakthroughs at important times supported very well by Jibran Azam (10-1-45-2). Dilan Patel (6-1-30-1) also chipped with a superb catch and Parks restricted Old Brentwoods to 232 all out in 47.3 overs. A valiant chase and some important fielding to work on, but a solid start to the season with both bat and ball so far!
