Harlow Town v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 16 Jun 2012 at 1.00
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 112 runs
Match report
Another day, another big match against 2nd placed Harlow Town and another match played in gale force winds. Quite a few players commented it was the windiest conditions they have ever played in.
Conditions were a bit damp and very blustery, so anyone winning the toss was going to field first. Harlow Town skipper Calver won the toss and had no hesitation in inserting us.
The pitch was slow and low, with the outfield being slow as well. This made scoring runs very difficult due to these factors. The ball was not coming on and then if a shot was hit well, full value would not be gained as often the ball would not get to the boundary.
Depsite this we batted very well to post 166, which in these conditions felt like the equivalent of 300 on another pitch. Rizwan Sadiq continued his superb form to register another 50 to carry on his consistency. However, he took on one big hit to many, taking on the gale force wind to perish on the boundary depsite hitting it flush. The innings was finished of with the middle order all chipping in to keep the scoreboard moving. In particular Ejaz Khan coming in at 8, hit a near run a ball 32 to help propel us to a well above par score. We have a very strong batting unit all the way down and it again showed the value of having quality in the lower batting order on days like this.
At tea we felt confident, despite what on paper may have seemed a low score. As we knew how difficult it was to bat out there and with our bowling/fielding unit, we knew if we put the ball in the right ares and stay patient we would get the rewards.
The bowling was opened up with our usual pair of Harris Khan and Ejaz Khan. From ball one we put the ball in the right areas and stayed patient knowing that to score runs fluently was very diffcult. The lack of runs started to show as Harlow Towns batsman started to fret over their non activity. The talk was of just like having batting partnerships, we needed bowling partnerships and this was a prime eample of this being executed. Harris Khan snared the 1st wicket and then the wickets flowed as he picked up a superb 5 wickets to take out their top order. Ejaz Khan was also superb despite taking only the 1 wicket, as pressure was being exerted from both ends, meaning not a moment to breath for the Harlows batters.
Rizwan Sadiq then came on to blow away their tail with his left arm spin, snaring 4 wickets in 5 overs. The bowlers were brilliantly supported by the fielding unit which showed tremendous hunger and desire. Two notable catches were taken by James Foley and Jibran Azam, which were as good as one could see. This was a fantastic performance to bundle out Harlow Town for 54 in just 27 overs to win by a massive 112 runs.
This was a huge win for us against the 2nd placed team, which has meant that last week we beat the table toppers and this week the 2nd placed team. This was a powerful and ruthless perfomance to propel us right up there in to the promotion slots. However, we know the season is long and positions in the table mean nothing at this stage. As we need to just keep performing and the league position will take care of itself then.
