Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won 13 Runs

Match report Old Parkonians secured their first league win of the season in SNEL division two with a tense and narrow 13 run victory at local rivals Woodford Green on Saturday.

Put into bat at the High Road ground, Parks captain Jamie Abbott smashed the first ball of the match for six over cover, only to edge behind next ball from his opposite number, David Weekes (3-49).

Kris Bostock hit a smooth 35 before he fell to Shah, one of three wickets at a cost of 40 and the next two of Baljit Singh (7) and Bobby Curtis (28) left the old boys in early trouble at 102-4 after 28 overs.

Aussie import Phil Butchart smacked a bullish 52 from 61 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes, but once he fell at 150-6, the innings collapsed to just 167 all out, with only Paul Robbins and Glen Sasikaran (both 12) making double figure scores from the lower half of the order.

Chief destroyer of that downfall, Kamran Ali with 3-24, was also the mainstay of the Green innings and he was to find himself at the crease after just three balls of the reply, as Nick Thorpe (4-25) captured David Roberts without score.

Ali and Monk added 82 for the second wicket, before 16 year old Glen Sasikaran (4-21 from 12 overs) started to make inroads as the hosts began to feel the pressure.

Still, at 140-6 with still 16 overs remaining a home win was on the cards, but Ali’s fellow batsmen lost their nerve to fall to 154 all out, leaving the former unbeaten on 78, as Parks won by 13 runs in a thrilling finale.

Parkonians first win in three league matches lifts them off the bottom of the table and they look forward to hosting Leigh-on-Sea this coming weekend.
