Match report Old Parkonians 3rd XI won at home against the Old Parkonians Matchplay Team in a friendly
This was good experience for the weakened under 16s Matchplay team, giving them all a chance to bowl and bat and providing an insight as to who is capable of making the full team when all are available.
The 3rd XI won the toss and decided to bat first on a flat wicket, making a challenging total of 244 all out in 40 overs. Despite loss of early wickets, Vijay Vijayanathan scored a patient 74 with the tail enders contributing. Opener Trevor (Nadarajah Thavanesan) retired hurt at the beginning of the innings but then scored a rapid 35no on one leg his return to the crease at the end of the innings.
Ravi Raval bowled very well for the Matchplay team, claiming two wickets for 27 runs in his 8 over spell. Janagan Vijaynathan claimed 2 wickets with his leg spin.

In reply, Match Play team openers Ravi Raval and Daniel Shalom made a solid start with a good partnership of 43 runs. Daniel was brilliantly caught by Nick Thorpe at mid wicket off Ilyas Bharuchi. After his departure, the Match Play team lost too many wickets and struggled to keep the required run rate. Opening left hander Ravi was only batsman to give resistance and scored 74. Pick of the bowlers was Vijay Vijayanathan who took 4 wickets for 27 runs in 6 overs. Umar Arbar (Dutch Orange) took 2 wickets for 2 runs which included the vital wicket of Ravi Ravi. The Match Play team were all out for 182 in 31 overs, with the 3rd XI winning by 62 runs.
