Match report Old Parkonians 3rd XI won away at Upminster 5th (Essex League)

Old Parkonians 200 all out (49.4 overs); Upminster 176 all out (45 overs)

Parks’ 3rd XI posted a terrific away win over Upminster on Saturday. Upminster won the toss and invited Parks to bat first on an Astraturf Wicket whereupon Max Solomons fell in the first over to S Fisher who made all the batsmen struggle with his pace bowling. However opener Karuna and number 3 batsman Tariq Jameel played sensibly and put a valuable partnership of 67 runs. After Karuna's departure, Tariq Jameel (73) continued his form with the bat and developed another partnership with Hamza Khan who scored a valuable 48 runs. Parks were 158 for 4 wickets at the end of 40 overs and lost the remaining wickets in quick session on the return of opening bowler S Fisher's second spell, giving him 5 wickets for 29 runs in 12.4 overs He was well supported by the leg spinner P Hammond who took 4 wickets for 68 runs in 17 overs. Parks were eventually bowled out for 200 in 49.4 overs.

In reply, Upminster struggled to score runs against the opening bowlers and lost quick three wickets to Mannicks Shanker in his first spell of 8 overs. This put Upminster on the backfoot despite a gritty batting from the skipper K Govani who batted well to score 52 runs. The opening bowlers Shanker and Izzy Daulatazi claimed 5 wickets between them in the last hour of the game.

The stunning victory came on the last ball of the game, when Izzy clean bowled the last man!
