Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost By 22 runs

Match report This week Parks welcomed Epping in what was an early season top of the table clash. Skipper Paran Kalley won the toss and elected to bowl first. Navneeth Vijayakumar (7-1-29-1) bowled an excellent opening spell on his first team debut. He got the ball the swing both ways and had their top order in all sorts of trouble. The Parks seamers bowled really well and got the ball to talk, first change bowler Osman Choudhary (10-2-24-2) was the pick of the bowlers. He troubled the batsmen consistently and was a big effort from him to bowl his 10 overs in one spell. At 150-7 Parks were looking to wrap the game up and not allow Epping to get away from them. However, some poor death bowling and poor fielding meant Epping were able to over the 200 mark and finished on 207 all out. A score in which Parks felt was 20/30 runs too many.

The Parks batsmen started the second innings off well. Both openers watched the ball and looked to rotate the strike. However, at the drinks break Parks were 107-5. Losing most of the top order the same way, gifting their wickets to the opposition and no one looking like they were going to play the long innings. Ravi Teja (94) yet again was the pick of the batsmen for Parks. He started of the innings with caution and as the game went on he grew with confidence. Playing some magnificent shots he was looking unbeatable at one stage. However, he was running out of partners and with 23 runs required Ravi was out caught behind. A really good effort by our overseas but unfortunately this week it wasn’t to be. Parks lost by 22 runs and picked up their first league loss of the year. Credit to Epping who held their nerve and took their chances. But it shows if Parks held onto their catches at the end then it would’ve been a different outcome. Still there’s a long way to go yet with 15 games still to play and Parks travel to bottom of the table Harlow Town next week trying to get back to winning ways.
