Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Sunday A XI v Chigwell on Sun 10 Jul 2016 at 1.30
Match was Drawn

Match report Was it 11 points gained or 9 points lost? A game of "what ifs" for Oakfield this week.

Park's lost the toss and the visitors had no hesitation in putting the hosts into bat in wet conditions. With sunshine forecast for later in the afternoon it looked a good toss to win. However the decision soon backfired as Parks got off to a flier, Dhruv Patel was particularly destructive smashing a rapid 33 (including 8 fours). The team 50 came up in less then 8 overs once he departed after playing one shot to many the run rate slowed down as Chigwell's bowlers kept it tight. Taaha Naqvi batted through making a gritty 52 supported by Aman Ali (25),both departed trying to accelerate the innings. Paresh Kalley joined the Skipper Usman Rafiq at the crease and the two proceeded to take the initiative to the bowlers. Running hard between the wickets and putting away the bad balls the run rate soon picked up. Usman departed for a well made 29, Paresh Kalley smashed a well earned 58 which included two huge six's. A late Cameo from Sifth Ali (25) and Tarunpreet Bhatia (13) enabled Parks to post 258 from their allotted 45 overs.

Parks enjoyed their tea and were confident they could get the opposition out. After team tactics were discussed Jonathan Balakumar and Aman Patel shared the new ball. Both kept it tight but were unable to get the breakthrough, a couple dropped catches did not help, the batsmen were riding their luck with some decisions also going their way. To try something different Dhruv Patel was thrown the ball and did not disappoint forcing the batsmen to sky the ball in his first over for Usman Rafiq to take a contender for catch of the season(even the opposition agreed!!). With the ball swirling high in the wind it seemed to be going beyond him only for him to take it one handed behind his back. Unfortunately it was the only catch to be take in the innings. As the Chigwell batsmen showed little interest in going for the chase, Sifth Ali was then thrown the ball. In what can only be described as a fantastic spell of swing bowling he finished with (10-0-42-5) all his victims clean bowled. As the game looked to be petering out into a boring draw Parks took it to an exciting finish with 3 quick wickets falling in the last 6 overs. Unfortunately we were unable to take the final 2 wickets, with Chigwell's number 3 making a resilient half century. Had he been taken at slips when on 0 (ahem by one who claims he never drops) it could have been a different result. Chigwell finished on 190 for 8 from 44 overs.

An excellent game of cricket. The saying catches win matches comes to mind and with a total of 6 drops here was clearly an example.
