Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won By 4 Wickets

Match report The first game of the season for the 2nd XI and it also happened to be the first league game. The new look team got to know each other very quickly and Jai Patel won the toss and put Woodford Green in.

It proved to be a good toss to win as Prashant Bist & Jai Patel bowled a tight line in seaming conditions which had Woodford Green 25-4 in 10 overs. The middle order recovered, led by R Veldtman and the ball was then thrown to Amit Kalley to try and unlock the growing partnership. Amit bowled a tremendous 12 over spell taking 6-13, bowling 37 consecutive dot balls (must be a club record!). The opposition were bowled out for 109 and our batsmen felt confident in getting the runs.

Opening batsman Alan Bouquet unfortunately was no longer available having dislocated his shoulder during the 1st innings and was supporting us from Queens Hospital whilst consuming Oxygen & Morphine (some people questioned his commitment...). Harry Markatis, 15, & Dilan Patel, 7, started well seeing off the new ball for 8 overs, however some good seam bowling left Parks 35-4 with 1 hour until 6pm. Adnan Aslam, 35 n.o., & Jai Patel, 24, dug in and took the total to 100-4 with 10 overs remaining. A few more wickets fell, but Parks comfortably reached the total with 7 overs to spare.

A solid & eventful start to the season for the 2nd XI and the team plans to carry the winning momentum on to Old Southendians next week.
