Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club U19 v Woodford wells on Sun 05 Aug 2018 at 1300
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 5 runs

Match report On a very hot August afternoon, OPCC hosted Woodford Wells in the Quarter Finals of the U19 T20 tournament. Owing to holidays and injuries Parks had to bring in 2 new recruits from the very talented U14 squad (Talha Raja and Amanjit Singh). Parks won the toss and elected to bat first on a very green wicket. Oakfield got off to a rocky start when we lost one of our openers (Sifth Ali) for 0 on only the 3rd ball of the game. However Aman Ali (22) and Bhavdeep Sehmi (6) formed a partnership of 28 runs. Things only went downhill from here. Parks had a middle order collapse with the only batsmen to reach double digits was the captain Paran Kalley (33) who batted magnificently with good temperament on a very sticky wicket. Unfortunately, 4 further wickets were to fall before the 20th over arrived. When Paran’s wicket fell due to him trying to accelerate the run rate in the last over. Matthew Holland and Amanjit were left to face the last two balls of Oakfield’s innings with score 92 for 8. Amanjit one of our young talented colts smashed a single to point leaving Matt to face the last ball. The Wells bowler bowled an above waist height delivery that was magnificently dispatched over the boundary rope for 6 runs, and a free hit. The final delivery of the innings was a dot ball leaving OPCC to defend a below par score of 99.

The Wells innings started off with a fantastic opening bowling display delivered by OPCC captain Paran Kalley (4-0-17-2) with some very close calls that fell in favour of the Wells captain. Paran’s opening partner Aman Ali also kept things tight with figures of 4-0-15-1. Woodford started to pull away and looked like all hope was lost, but Parks pulled together manged to bring the score back into their favour. This was due to the brilliant fielding display of the whole team, holding onto two difficult catches, including a stunning diving catch from Tarun Bhatti and a crucial catch from young Talha that greatly helped to tip the balance back in Parks favour. Aman Ali’s pin point rocket like runout throw managed to unseat a dangerous wells batsman and made sure that Oakfield Parkonians were in the driving seat going into the last 4 overs. With brilliant bowling from Tarun (4-0-8-1), Paresh Kalley (4-0-24-2) and Pranav Khetia (2-0-18-1) this meant Sifth had to defend 9 runs off 6 balls for Parks to reach the semi-finals. With Sifth bowling 4 dot balls and 2 runs coming from the penultimate delivery the pressure was all on the Woodford Wells batsmen as 9 off 6 suddenly became 7 off 1. The tension around the ground was immense, Sifth ran in and bowled the crucial delivery. With the ball rolling to brother Amen Ali Oakfield Playing fields erupted with cheers for a Parks win.

A great win with Oakfield looking strong for the semi-finals later in the month on the 19th.
