Match report First outing for the OPCC 5th XI in 2017, plying at home at Oakfield.

The boys from White Star made the trek from Wembley to play in this friendly in superb conditions with a strong crosswind.

Oakfields skipper Subhash Patel won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Bal Diocee and Umar (Orange) Arbar made a solid and cautious start, before Orange opened up and strated to attack - dealing only in boundaries. Bal then joined the party and quickly progressed to his maiden half-century at the club, falling caught eventually at 54. Orange made a swift 29and the other notable contribution was Jigar Desai with a well made 38. Howard Berlin was run out after tripping but was very sportingly recalled by the opposition skipper Stephen, and then proceeded to make them regret that decision as he scored 25 valuable runs very quickly. Parks finished on 195 for 6 off their 35 overs.

After a lovely tea, White Star started their reply, in typical attacking West Indian fashion, punishing some loose bowling. Young Karan Bansel playing his first senior game at Parks impressed opening the bowling. After a nervous first over, that was punished, he came round the wicket with his left arm medium pace and troubled all the batsmen. He utilised the cross-wind to swing the ball in prodiguosly, getting the odd ball to rise, and hold its line. One of the opposition said "I could watch him bowl all day". Karan finished his 6 overs taking 4 wickets for 17 runs - 3 bowled, and one caught in spectacular fashion by young Samuel Varnes - a contender for catch of the season.

However, White Star made light work of the target reaching 196 for 4 in only 30 overs, with Vincent scoring a brutal half century and other contributions from Sheldon Raghav and Orn.

In the coming weeks Parks need to work on bowling, and fielding, but the batting department has made a good start to the season.
