Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Sunday A XI v Hainault and Clayhall on Sun 25 Jun 2017 at 2pm
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
OPCC Sunday A XI beat H&C at home by 2 wickets in the Essex League.
H&C 151 all out (34.5 0vers) Oakfield Parkonians 153 for 8 wickets (29,4 overs)
Stand in skipper Vijay Vijayanathan won the toss and invited H&C to bat in an overcast condition.
It proved to be a good toss to win as Anujan Thiru and Ronan Karuna contained the top order batsmen from scoring runs in a tidy spell which put the opening batsmen under pressure resulting in early wickets. Ronan had the joy of bowling the opening batsman M Mahatma in the 6th over. Anujan Thiru then removed the number 2 & 3 batsmen in a quick succession and took his 3rd wicket before he took a break from his first spell. Thanks to a brilliant catch by Sarbjeet Singh at the gully position.
The middle order then recovered, led by Sagar Joshi and A Mahatma, putting on a good partnership of 78 runs, which came in a slow pace as Parks bowlers Anuj Tiwari and Vijay Vijayanathan bowled well. Anuj picked up a wicket in his spell of 5 overs. Bowling change paid a dividend as Dilan Patel caught the danger man Sagar Joshi who made a well grafted 28, in his own bowling and he repeated the same to remove number 7 batsman S Singh. Parks skipper brought back Anujan Thiru who did not disappoint the team as he took 2 quick wickets including the top scoring batsman A Mahatma who played well for his 40. Anujan’s excellent spell saw his first 5 wicket success in the Sunday league. Part time bowler Teerath Diocee removed the last man as the opposition were bowled for 151 in 34.5 overs.
After the break, Parks in reply started well with Sulosan Thiru and Teerath Diocee, both seeing off the new ball comfortably, putting on 33 in 7 overs. Sulosan Thiru (16) misjudged a short ball to give a catch to the short leg fielder. Parks suffered a collapse in the top order, however Dilan Patel and Teerath Dioce had to steady the innings with a valuable partnership of 27 runs before Dilan departed for 12. It seemed that Teerath was running out for partners but in the crucial situation, Parks were 101 for 5 still needing 52 in 29 overs Ronan Karuna brought the situation under control producing much needed partnership which put Parks back on track. Ronan’s solid innings of 18 ended when he played a shot too many to be caught at the boundary line. Drama again as Parks were suddenly 149 for 8 as they lost two quick wickets including Teerath having scored 50. He almost carried the bat when needing just 3 runs to cross the line. Parks eventually made home with a nail biting finish winning by 2 wickets. Anujan Thiru proved that he is not only a fine bowler but can also bat as he made a quick fire 11 not out.
The match was played in a very good team sprit by both teams.
