Hockerill 3s v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 5th XI on Sat 25 Jun 2016 at 1.30
Match was Abandoned due to torrential rain !!!

Match report A great game played in great spirit between two well matched sides.

Hockerill 3s skipper D.Aitkin sportingly allowed The Parks 5s to bat first as we only had 10, two of whom were delayed arriving due to the last minute change of location for the game. He even gave us a player.

Almost all the Parks batsmen got starts but failed to convert these to big scores due to the tight bowling and very slow pitch. Lots of wickets fell to catches as the ball stopped on the pitch. However - these scores still enabled Parks to post a challenging 152 all out from 38.3 of the allotted 40 overs. Top scores came from Jigar Desai with a quick 26 in the middle order and makeshift opener Bryn Evans built a steady 23 whilst wickets fell regularly at the other end. 2 catches apiece for C.Hoy and G.Irvine. The majority of the wickets were taken by the Hockerill colts - great to see youngsters performing well.

After an excellent tea, Hockerill 3s began their chase. Wickets fell regularly. Young Saajan Bansel bowled beautifully with great control of line and length to build pressure, and was very unfortunate not to take a wicket in bowling his 4 overs for only 9 runs with 2 maidens. At the other end Amar Desai bowled 5 overs taking 2 for 9. Bryn Evans maintained the pressure in his 8 overs taking 2 wickets for 13, including a catch for skipper and stand-in keeper Bal Diocee.

Jigar Desai added a wicket to his two well taken catches in his single over.

Another Parks youngster - Om Thakeria - again bamboozled the opposition batsmen (and Parks wicket-keeper!), spinning the ball prodigiously in both directions with his left arm wrist spin. He bowled 4.5 overs for only 15 runs taking a wicket, before the heavens opened and called a halt to proceedings. Hockerill 3s finished at 87 for 6 off 26 overs - and did not look in a position to chase down 153 despite a stubborn innings of 43 n.o from J.Gibson.

It would have been great to get a result in Bishops Stortford, but the weather didn't allow it. Next game for the 5s is at home, and we need to combine the good batting from the first game with the excellent bowling in this one in a single game to notch up our first win.
