Old Southendians v Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 21 May 2016 at 1pm
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets

Match report A tight game at Garon Park saw Parks lose by 3 wickets, leaving Old Southendians top of Div 2 and Parks scratching their heads at what could have been...

Parks top order struggled the week before and unfortunately continued to do so with only 2 players in the top 7 scoring double figures. Ryan Karuna (14) started off well, hitting a six in the first over. Unfortunately sloppy shots cost him and the majority of the top 6 their wickets. James Foley stood out, anchoring the team for 40 overs, scoring a phenomenal 145 (blasting 16 fours and 6 sixes) in his first Saturday ton for the year. He continued his fine form carrying the team from a precarious position of 97 for 5 to 213 for 6. Ronan Karuna (59) supported him fantastically as both scored at a rapid rate for their hundred partnership in 10 overs. Parks scored 74 in their last 10, running hard between the wickets and feeling confident on a two paced wicket.

Parks bowling display unfortunately left a sour taste. Wicket taking performers were Ronan Karuna (12-0-67-2), Sift Ali (11.1-3-40-2) and Dilan Patel (8-0-64-3) who all did their best to chip in and restrict Old Southendians. 9 drop catches, sloppy misfields and a careless 10 overs let Vijay and Wasgold score 114 and 77 respectively. Old Southendians were 180-1 and Parks had let them right back into the game. The final 17 overs were bowled well and the wicket taking bowlers really followed their plans during this period. However, with 9 wickets in hand Old Southendians comfortably reached the target in 43 overs despite Parks taking a further 6 wickets.

Skipper Foley has a lot to think about as despite his fantastic contribution, after a poor fielding display and sloppy shot selection left a lot wanting.

Parks will be back firing next against Belhus with players looking to redeem themselves.

p.s. Stand out performance for the Parks clearly goes to James Foley with a fantastic 145 and some monster sixes. However, Old Southendians Aussie, Johnson, must also be commended for coming into bat at number 6 after spending 4 hours in hospital with a very bad finger break / dislocation. His 24 saw Old Southendians home and Parks were shocked by his Spartan strength coming into bat! That again sets the standards for the boys in maroon next week!
