Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 2nd XI v Horndon-on-the-Hill on Sat 14 May 2016 at 1pm
Match was Drawn

Match report A great game of cricket played in great spirit.

Both sides were newly promoted to Div 2 and knew each other well. Parks won the toss and elected to field aiming for a similar tactic to the week before.

B Mann (8.4-0-39-0) and Ron Karuna (12-2-53-2) bowled tight lines and despite toiling had no early luck. Then two wickets in two balls as a brilliant run out by Aman Ali took advantage of some poor communication between the opening batters. The next ball big Ron bowled a beauty and Foley took a superb catch to get rid of the experienced Hutcherson. Horndon continued to build partnerships of 40-50 and their innings was anchored by their skipper who played well for 75. Parks spinners bowled well but were played well by Cutts who anchored right until the end. Sift Ali and Ron Karuna bowled well at the end to restrict Horndon in the last 10 overs to 245 (could have easily been 270 if not for the tight bowling).

Parks opened with B Mann (19), due to injury, and he started well. Unfortunately Ryan Karuna (5) and Rafiq (4) fell cheaply and then Foley (65) and S. Ali (19) batted well for a strong partnership and Parks looked on track. Foley stroked some glorious consecutive 6s from Patmore straight over his head, however his support dried up with S. Ali & H Shah falling in the space of 6 balls. Foley then smashed a shot directly to cover, caught superbly, and Parks looked in trouble at 99-5. A Ali (73*) and J Patel (19) consolidated slightly for 30 runs but then another superb one handed catch from the keeper got Patel out. D Patel (19) offered some resistance, looking in good nick, but one shot too many left Parks at 198-9 with 9 overs to spare. A tall task to save the game.

Then came the Aman Ali show, batting with grit, flair & brains, taking the strike at the end of each over, punishing the bad balls and taking Parks to what looked like an unlikely victory. He was superbly supported by A Thanki (5*) for 9 overs and took Parks to requiring 10 off the last over with 1 wicket to go. Unfortunately, Horndon spread the field and took the pace right off and despite some tight running and a glorious straight drive for 4, Parks could only manage 8, falling 1 run short in a glorious and tense game of cricket.

Despite not getting over the line, great resilience was shown by MoM performer Aman Ali, which left the Parks feeling in confident mood for next weeks game. A game played in great spirits, with some great fielding and stand out performances. The weather was chilly though.....
