Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost By 8 runs

Match report This was a classic example of drawing ‘defeat from the jaws of victory’ and reminded the spectators of the infamous collapses from the England team of old. OPCC won the toss and electing to bowl first in conditions ideal for seam bowling and they started so well. At the half way stage, Westcliffe were restricted to 26 for 3 after some excellent bowling by the opening pair of Paran Kalley (7-3-22-0), Aman Patel (6-1-15-2) and they were generally well supported by the back-up bowlers but OPCC became very sloppy towards the end of the Westcliffe innings and allowed them to score 80 off the last 10 overs. Again extras was the third top cored with 34 (20 byes and 10 wides) and this allowed them to finish on 171 for 8. The other wicket takers were Paresh Kalley (8-3-25-3) and Sahil Handa (6-1-32-2).
However, OPCC began the run chase so well and at the half way stage were 62 for 1, with Arun Kullar batting beautifully and Karthegan Thavanesan providing good support. Karthegan fell for 26 and at that stage OPCC were 120 for 2 and only needed 51 from 15 overs and with 8 wickets in hand. But then it all fell apart and they lost their last 8 wickets for 43 runs and lost the game by 8 runs. Arun Kullar made a very masterful 66 (including 9 fours) and this should have been enough to win the game but no one else applied themselves and have only themselves to blame for bowing out of this year’s Matchplay
