Match report This really was game of 2 halves and showed the 2 sides of the U16s team. OPCC won the toss and elected to bat first. After losing an early wicket in the fourth over, Teerath Diocee and guest player Faheem Aziz (38) consolidated the innings and put on a partnership of 44 before Teerath was out for a well crafted 32 in the 16th over. This bought in Paran Kalley and he scored 103no, which included 7 fours and 4 sixes. This was his third century this season and he dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground and some late order support from Ronan Karuna (21no), allowed OPCC to post a very competitive 245 for 6.
This should have been enough to win the ground and looked a very tough chase but some great batting by Woodford Wells and some very poor bowling and fielding by OPCC, allowed WW to chase down this total with an over to spare. Only Abdul Usman (5-0-25-1) and Tarun Bhatia (4-0-17-1) bowled with anything like the control required in this situation. The turning point was a missed opportunity of a fairly simply run out of WW’s late order batman (H Gard) when he was in single figures and this proved to be a very costly mistake as he went onto score 40 in double quick time and took the game away from OPCC. All in all, this was a great game of cricket, played in excellent spirit by both teams and was fitting start to WWs colt’s cricketing week.
