Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets

Match report Oakfield won the toss and, needing the points, chose to bat first. Whilst the runs were coming at a fast pace, wickets were also falling and Parks were 43 for five inside ten overs. Then Tariq Jameel was joined by Andrew Beaven and they consolidated the innings in a 55 run partnership. Then wickets fell aain, this time gradually and Oakfield were all out for a below par 142, OS captain Ricky Stevenson taking 6 for 57.
Having bowled out Old Southendians for 85 in the return fixture a few weeks before, Oakfield were confident they could still win the game. They had reckoned without OS playing a 3rd XI player, Bradley Thompson, in what was effectively their 6th XI. The Parks did get him out stumped in the 4th over, except that the umpire chose not to give the correct decision, later admitting he knew Thompson was out, but didn't give it because it was close. OS put on over 50 for the first wicket, but having taken one, Parks kept chipping away at the OS batting. Thompson was eventually out to Nick Thorpe for 70, but OS squeezed home by 2 wickets. Nick Thorpe was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5 for 47, giving him a tally of 11 for 68 against Old Southendians this year.
