Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won 131 runs

Match report A cold day at Oakfield with glimpses of sun seeping through the clouds, Parks won the toss on what looked like a good batting wicket.

Unfortunately the wicket wasn't as easy as it looked with variable bounce and a seaming wicket. Sachin Vara hit two fours and then tried for another and out in the first over. Faisal Bhatti (15) and Jibran Azam (41) then put on a solid 50 partnership on a very challenging deck surviving and ticking the board along. Faisal looked resilient in his first outting for the Parks. Jibran hit a few monster sixes but tried for one two many as he holed out to mid-wicket. Paran Kalley (65) and Tahaa Naqvi (46) then put on a superb 93 partnership being aggressive when necessary but smart and clever with their shot selection. It was brilliant to watch the youngsters come of age and indicates bright signs for the future. Vikram Handa (22) then came in for an 18 ball cameo doing much of what he did last season, bludgeoning 5 boundaries across the outfield. The middle order took Parks to 206-4, however Benfleet came back and bowled well at the end restricting Parks to 233 all out. The batting unit still needs to show evidence of batting as a unit, but it was good to see 15 year old Paran hit his first 50 for the 1s.

Parks felt it was a very defendable total and it proved with Amar Thanki (8-3-18-3) taking a brilliant wicket in his 2nd over. Amar bowled fantastically well on his first game for the 1s this year with 2 wicket maidens another maiden. He deomonstrated fantastic control, seam and swing and Parks opening bowling spell restricted Benfleet to 52-3. Then came on the spin trio who were a delight to watch. Ronak Soni (5-1-11-1) tied up an end and Abul Razzaq (7.2-2-11-3) and Jibran Azam (7-1-24-3) showed their class with flight and guile. Some solid fielding, catching and aggression saw Benfleet collapse within 30 overs for 102. Parks won the game comfortably by 131 runs and it was a good demonstration as to what scoreboard pressure does to the opposition on a difficult wicket.
