Match report Old Parks 3rd XI welcomed Fives & Heronians 4th to a dry and sunny Oakfield for an SNEL fixture on Saturday.

Parks' stand-in skipper Andrew Beaven and Gurmit Bhatia put on 72 for the third wicket, with the latter leading the scoring with 56. Pirratheesh Vigneswarathasan contributed a hard-hit 32, and Kumaran Ravendradas, making his first appearance of the season in between commitments at the Olympic Park, finished on 17 not out, but Parks lost regular wickets to be all out for 210 in the 50th over. As events were to prove, this was an under-par score on a hard pitch that encouraged stroke play.

Fives opener Saqib Kamran followed up 26 overs with the wicket-keeping gloves and a miserly spell of slow left-arm bowling with a whirlwind innings of 54 in just 46 minutes, as the visitors raced to 71 before losing a wicket. A well-constructed knock of 78 not out from Stephen Iyayi, and a more circumspect innings of 58 not out from all-rounder Shahrukh Irfan saw Fives to a comfortable 9 wicket win, in just 34 overs.

The result leaves the Parks' 3rd XI still just 27 points behind 3rd place in the SNEL 4th XI section, Division One, but only 25 points above the relegation zone. With no League victories since early June, Parks now desperately need to return to winning ways.
