Match report The monsoon season seemed a distant memory as we arrived at HQ in bright sunshine without a cloud in the sky, a glorious english summer. We won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first in seemingly great run scoring conditions. We knew today would be our toughest test to date, against a Billericay side who are always decent and who had been bolstered by the recruit of ex Essex wicket keeper batsman Barry Hyam.

Things started well with Hermes Solomonides making a typical hard hitting 52. However, that was the only highlight as the rest of the batting failed to fire as we registered a well below par score of 123. Their kiwi overseas Houghton, bowled a superb spell to grab 8 wickets in a match I am sure he will remember fondly.

The talk at the turn around was to give it a go and give our all. We did indeed bowl very well with discipline and passion, as reflected by only 2 wides. It was a good performance in the field as we troubled their batters. However, the quality of Hyam showed as he over came our attempts and compiled a classy 89 not out to see them home. It should be noted however that at times we caused him plently of problems, in particular Harris Khan who was unlucky not to snare him on a few occassions.

A strange day were things did not seem to go our way. Bizzare game cricket as today we gave our best bowling performance of the league, without the rewards we got in previous games. In the end a lack of runs was the key factor.

Anyhow on to next week and away to Hutton, were we hope to bounce back. Early days in the season and we have had a fine start which puts us 1 win of top.
