Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 1st XI v West Essex (50/50) on Sat 19 May 2012 at 12.30
Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Won by 54 runs

Match report The 1st team had their 1st home fixture of the season after a long wait, it was good to finally play at HQ after lots of travelling. Another toss to win and field first in good bowling conditions. But for the second game in a row skipper Dave Rai lost the toss and we were put in to bat.

A fantastic 128 partnership between Hermes Solomonides and Rizwan Sadiq propelled us to a fast start, it invloved some lusty hitting mixed with good running. Both eventually fell in quick succession but the innings carried on its momentum with vice captain Rushan Pandya, playing once again an important knock to steady the ship and keep things ticking over. The innings was finished of once again in composed style by James Foley, who scored fluently to remain unbeaten and take us to an imposing 268. Foley is yet to get out in the league, so we are watching with interest to see what average he will have when he does. There was even talk of Foley winning the piripiri race to 500.

At tea we felt once again that we had an above average score and that if we bowled in the right areas we could get the win required. Ejaz Khan as usual took the new ball, partnering Kirandeep Bansal who had the new cherry in the abscence of Harris Khan, who was away believe it or not on a business trip to Manchester!!! Ejaz once again gave a fine display of swing and seam bowling to strangle West Essex's top order, but for some butter fingers by the fielding unit he would have ended up with more then the 3 wickets he got. Bansal also rose to the responsibilty of the new ball and bowled an economic spell which put West Essex's run rate required to alarming levels. The game was very much in our control and the control was increased by Rizwan Sadiq and Daud Arghandawi bowling tight controlled spells. Daud in particular was a revelation with his accurate bowling, clearly winter nets paid of for him (others please take note). West Essex had some lusty hitting at the end with Irfan Riaz hitting it long as usual but Old Parks kept their calm and discipline, with Daud coming back on to bowl with a cool head, snaring the power hitter with one big shot to many.

In the end a comfortable victory in a match we controlled from start to finish, West Essex provided a stern test which we met and overcame. A tremendous start to the season in which the 1st team has won all their games so far, including the pre season friendlies, this also has meant 2 league wins out of 2 to grab maximum points so far. Billericay next week, were an even bigger challenge awaits, Old Parks will need their A game if they are to be victorious. We hope to continue our fine form.
