Match report In the Len Steniford Cup final at Woodford Wells, Old Parks Under 13's came up against a very talented Upminster team who excelled in all areas of the game.
Upminster won the toss and decided to bat first, their first two batsmen Frank Hazle and Will Chuter played excellently, hitting the ball powerfully, both retiring when reaching 30 runs. Little respite however for Parks, as James Brook came to the crease and hit 27 runs very quickly, before the first wicket fell on 93. Parks seam bowlers were having no joy against the batsmen, James Grafton (4-0-15-2) fine spin bowling slowed the run rate, Taranpreet Bhatia (3-0-41-2) although conceding runs took two wickets and Dhruv Patel (3-0-7-2) restricted Upminster to 145 runs, which at one point looked likely to be nearer 200.
In reply Parks were struggling against an exceedingly fine bowling attack backed up by first rate fielding. The only Parks batsmen who really coped was the captain Sachin Bawa who hit 30 before retiring, from 26 balls, Dhruv Patel (16) was run out going for a second run that never looked on and Paran Kalley (11) was clean bowled. Parks reached 100 - 7 from their 20 overs, losing by 45 runs.
Defeat to such a good team was no disgrace!
