Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club Lost 65 Runs

Match report Old Parkonians put up a valiant effort before going down by 65 runs to SNEL champions Saffron Walden in the SNEL cup.

Parks made a wonderful start to the match as they reduced the visitors to 18-3 after Saffron had put themselves into bat at Oakfield. Kevin Hughes took the third wicket with a direct hit run out, turning and hitting the stumps after initially delivering the ball to the batsman. Glen Sasikaran had taken the first two wickets and finished with 2-30 from his nine over.

However, class act Giles Eccelestone hit 80 in quick time and with support around him Walden completed their 45 overs on 212-6 with Nick Thorpe taking two of the further three wickets to fall at a cost of 34 runs.

The old boys made a confident start to their reply at 59-1 but soon fell to 121-4 with Bobby Curtis out for a top score of 44 with six fours.

New Aussie recruit Jason Ryan smashed 40 from 26 balls including three sixes off one Ryan Sparrow over, but his wicket saw the end for Parks and they were eventually all out for 147 with 15 deliveries unused.

Parkonians entertain Old Southendians this Saturday in a friendly before the league campaign begins with the visit of Walthamstow to Oakfield.
