Match report This week Parks travelled to Upminster for the first of the second leg matches. Upminster won the toss and invited Parks to bat on a damp pitch. Parks’ campaign started disastrously when opener Bhavik Trivedi got bowled on the very first over and fellow opener Chetan Patel got caught at gully on the 4th over. Parks were on the back foot from that point forward and runs were at premium against a very disciplined bowling attack. Fazan Habib and Nikhith Podutoori did a good job in rebuilding the innings. Fazan scored a fluent 44 with some eye pleasing cover drives. Other notable contributions came from Maran Mariyathas (19) and Yashes Patel (29 not out) who played an attacking rare guard action batting at number 9 with ample support from last man Nav Kalley. Parks ended their innings with 134 all out after 41 overs. Colt Jamie Green took 4-40 for Upminster.

From previous experiences, Parks knew any result is a possibility given they have defended much lower scores successfully at the same ground. Parks opened the attack with Nav Kalley and Manicks Shankar. Shankar removed the dangerous opener Rafe Smallman on the 8th over when the score was at 26. However, Upminster knuckled down and slowly started to accumulate runs and reached 75 without losing further wickets after 26 overs. Multiple bowlers were tried by the Parks skipper and the breakthrough was finally provided by 4th change bowler Maran who took 2 wickets to leave Upminster at 111-3 after 36 overs. With only 8 overs remaining and 25 runs to defend, skipper Shankar turned to Nav Kalley and Chetan Patel. Both bowlers did not disappoint and produced two of the best spells we have seen in a long while. Together they took a total of 6 wickets (3 wickets a piece) in 7 overs for just 10 runs. Nav took 3 wickets in 4 balls and unlucky to miss a hatrick.

The game went to the wire with one over left but Parks could not remove the last man and settled for a draw with Upminster ending their innings at 126-9 after 44 overs. It was hard fought draw till the very end and Parks can be hugely proud of the way the entire team has performed in the second innings. There were few missed chances and dropped catches but the way they fought till the very end was commendable and they can take lots of positive from this game into the upcoming matches.
